When the topic of sustainability gets brought up, often the attention is drawn to points like recycling and reducing waste. But there is so much more to it. There is no question that recycling and reusing waste products play a big role when it comes to environmental sustainability, but so too does eliminating CO2 emissions to reduce our carbon footprint. The goal of these efforts is to reduce the impact an organization has on the earth and all those that live on it. Kaye is expanding its sustainability efforts by challenging the entire organization to identify efforts that could be improved.
No matter how big or small, everything adds up to a measurable positive impact in Kaye’s effort to “Go Green”. To encourage others to follow, we would like to share some of these small-change, measurable-impact examples.
Energy consumption improvements at European Headquarters
As part of the ongoing improvements and expansion at our Pforzheim site in Germany, Kaye is taking our sustainability efforts to another “green” level through many initiatives. We're replacing existing lighting with energy efficient lighting, where possible. We're adding additional thermal installation to improve thermal aspects of the building. We're working with a local electricity provider to use power supplied by renewable energy (wind/water/solar). We're installing special heat meters that will better regulate the heating and hot water system in the building to be more efficient which will help reduce emissions, energy consumption, and costs.
Reducing Battery Consumption of Kaye Products
On the product end, we are constantly working to improve the battery usage of our Kaye products. By optimizing how our products operate, we can make the batteries work efficiently while getting the most out of their lifespan. That means that users of Kaye Equipment will use less batteries, which means less batteries discarded.
Travel Improvements
Face-to-face meetings with suppliers and customers is a vital part of our business. We're making modifications on this front to improve sustainability as well. Kaye is working to transition the company's vehicle fleet to hybrid and electric vehicles. This will reduce our environmental impact on both the fossil fuel front and the emissions front. Our trips will be more environmentally friendly than ever before.
Another way to take the impact levels down even further is to reduce trips entirely. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, virtual meetings became the standard option for everyone. This was in an effort to reduce human contact and avoid the spread of disease. But virtual visits can still play a big role from a sustainability standpoint. For Kaye, offering online seminars and training sessions is a way that we can be even more environmentally friendly. Seeing the importance in this, we are still offering and making efforts to take part in as many virtual efforts as possible.
