La medición exacta de la temperatura, tanto en un estudio de distribución como en un estudio de penetración, y la medición precisa de la presión de la cámara son parámetros importantes en la validación de un autoclave de vapor. ¿Por qué es importante medir la presión de la cámara en la validación de un autoclave de vapor?
La medición de la presión de la cámara es una parte crucial de la validación de un autoclave de vapor. Según los principios de la termodinámica, expresados en la ley de los gases ideales (PV=nRT), la presión ("P") desempeña un papel fundamental en la regulación de la temperatura ("T") y, por tanto, en la producción de vapor saturado, considerado como el medio óptimo para la esterilización. Una presión adecuada favorece la penetración del vapor, guiándolo hacia las zonas de difícil acceso de los productos a esterilizar. Si la presión es demasiado baja para conseguir vapor saturado, existe el riesgo de que la esterilización sea insuficiente. Las mediciones de presión no sólo son esenciales para la supervisión en tiempo real de los ciclos de esterilización, sino también para garantizar un funcionamiento continuo dentro de los límites de presión definidos, según lo prescrito por los procedimientos y directrices de funcionamiento normalizados. Esto ayuda a verificar la integridad de los sistemas de vacío y a identificar fugas que podrían afectar a los resultados de la esterilización.
Alcanzar y mantener un estado de vapor saturado también es vital para el éxito de la esterilización. Si aparecen signos de disminución de la saturación, por ejemplo, valores irregulares de temperatura o presión, podría sugerir un deterioro de la calidad del vapor que requiere una investigación más profunda.
¿Qué sensores de presión se utilizan?
Existen varios tipos de sensores de presión diseñados para satisfacer demandas específicas en aplicaciones industriales. Los sensores piezoresistivos se valoran por su resistencia cambiante bajo tensión mecánica. Los sensores capacitivos utilizan los cambios de capacitancia para medir la presión, mientras que los sensores piezoeléctricos, que producen tensiones eléctricas bajo presión, son especialmente adecuados para medir la presión dinámica. Los sensores de presión diferencial miden las diferencias de presión entre dos puntos, y los sensores de presión absoluta determinan la presión en relación con el vacío perfecto.
En los procesos de esterilización, como la esterilización por vapor y los autoclaves, se utilizan mucho los sensores de presión absoluta. Estos sensores miden la presión en relación con el cero absoluto (vacío perfecto), lo que resulta ventajoso en entornos en los que las mediciones de presión deben realizarse con respecto a una referencia constante.
Los sensores de presión utilizados en este tipo de procesos deben ser capaces de realizar mediciones precisas a altas temperaturas y presiones y deben ser resistentes a los materiales utilizados habitualmente en la esterilización (principalmente vapor u otros gases). Además, deben ser fáciles de limpiar y esterilizar.
Además de las mencionadas circunstancias operativas, y a veces adversas, a las que se expone un sensor de presión cuando se utiliza en un autoclave de vapor, una calibración óptima desempeña un papel crucial para una medición precisa y el consiguiente resultado de la medición.
¿Qué hay que tener en cuenta durante el calibrado?
La compensación de temperatura es un factor crucial en la calibración de sensores de presión y otros dispositivos de medición. Muchos sensores reaccionan a los cambios de temperatura, lo que puede provocar imprecisiones en los datos de medición. Un sensor calibrado a temperatura ambiente puede no dar los mismos resultados a temperaturas más altas o más bajas.
La compensación de temperatura es el proceso de corrección de estas desviaciones relacionadas con la temperatura. Normalmente existen dos métodos de compensación de temperatura:
1. Compensación física de la temperatura: Suele implicar el uso de materiales o diseños que reaccionan poco o nada a los cambios de temperatura. Pero a veces también puede significar que la respuesta de un componente a los cambios de temperatura se compensa con la respuesta opuesta de otro componente debido a un diseño inteligente.
2. Compensación electrónica de temperatura: Se basa en el uso de circuitos electrónicos o algoritmos de software para corregir las desviaciones relacionadas con la temperatura. Suele implicar el uso de un sensor de temperatura independiente, que mide la temperatura actual y ajusta en consecuencia los datos de medición del sensor de presión.
Cuando se calibran sensores de presión, especialmente en aplicaciones críticas como los procesos de esterilización, es crucial calibrar el sensor en condiciones que se aproximen lo más posible a su entorno de funcionamiento real. Si el sensor funciona a altas temperaturas, también debe calibrarse a altas temperaturas. Así se garantiza que todas las desviaciones relacionadas con la temperatura se capten y corrijan durante el proceso de calibración.

Para combatir estas desviaciones relacionadas con la temperatura, la calibración se realiza en condiciones reales de funcionamiento. Esto asegura que el sensor refleja con precisión las condiciones reales y garantiza la precisión y fiabilidad de las mediciones en el entorno dado.
Por lo tanto, es esencial examinar detenidamente el certificado de calibración. Los sensores de presión suelen calibrarse a temperatura ambiente, pero es importante insistir en la calibración a la temperatura de trabajo real del proceso de esterilización por vapor, normalmente 121,1°C. Sólo así se puede detectar y minimizar un error debido a una compensación insuficiente de la temperatura.
